The Way Way Back

No, it's not a baseball movie with Indians fans arguing about whether a fly ball is "too high" to be a home run.  It is however a great coming of age movie worth 90 minutes of your time.  For starters, the cast is fantastic. Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Allison Janey, Maya Rudolph, and Amanda Peet make up the adult ensemble.  The biggest surprise of the group is Steve Carell.  He's cast as a complete asshole, and does a great job of making you hate him the entire movie.

But the adults are just a platform for the true performance of this movie by 16 year old Liam James.  Liam plays an adolescent who is lost without a sense of himself, and is even more disillusioned by his parents divorce and his mother's jerk of a boyfriend (Carell).  Liam completely ensnares the audience in every scene he's in.
